Entertainment vs Worship

I recently read Chuck Swindoll's article, "The Problem with Pizzaz" which you can read here. And while I do not agree with everything in the article he makes some fine points about the trap that many contemporary churches have fallen into.  I have posted a few comments below.

For years I had attended churches that featured contemporary worship.  It was great and being a drummer I appreciated the lively tempo.  In fact I played in numerous worship bands.  But as a pastor it became laborsome over the years to try to sustain an "agreeable" worship experience.  What I mean by that is that the worship was a constant effort to keep people pleased with the experience.  Ask any contemporary church pastor and they will tell you the same thing.  With a historic liturgy, like we have here at Anglican Church of the Resurrection, the reason we are here is never missed - it is for God.  It is not dependent upon what songs were picked, on the quality of the worship band, or the particular inspiration of the preacher that Sunday.  Since the focal point of the worship is Holy Eucharist (Communion), since that is the pinnacle of the event, the service stays grounded in worship towards God.  These things also keep it theologically sound.
